Sumi-e is a drawing technique that originated in the Chinese school, although it was soon spread to Japan by Buddhist monks. Sumi means ink, and e means painting. With its use, artists sought the beautiful representation of elements in their most essential form.
This series is inspired by its monochromatic aesthetic and distills my passion for trees, painting, and poetry. The backlight tints the details with darkness while emphasizing the shapes to evoke. Earth, water, and plastic come together to compose tree metaphors stained with ink.
